  • Aging Parents and Sibling Relationships

When parents age and need more support, it is common for sibilings to have strained relationships due to one sibling taking on more responsibility in assisting their parents with in-home support. There are ways to prevent family relationships from being negatively affected by the experiences that occur as a result of aging parents. First and foremost, show appreciation for the support someone is providing. Second, ask for assistance from others in the family. Also, consider utilizing the many senior care services available in your area. This will be better for your parents and for your relationships with your family members.

My mom agreed that when a parent is old one sibling takes in more responsibility with in-home support. She suggested my aunt considering senior care services for my grandfather. My mom convinced her and they are now looking up some home health care services who can assist my grandfather.

Thank you for your comment! What a great idea! It is important to consider the health or potential future health complications of your Aunt, but I am sure that has been considered in your situation.
